As the main sponsor of the TAUS conferences in 2024, Translated is happy to open to all TAUS participants – for free – its two main June events taking place the same week of the TAUS conference in Rome, namely the Imminent Unconference (Thursday 20th, 6 pm – Friday 21st, 2 pm) and the OGR Ceremony (Friday 21st, from 6 pm) & Party (Saturday 22nd, from 6 pm).

Rome, 2024 June 20th – 22nd

Imminent Unconference

WHEN: THURSDAY 20TH, 6 PM – FRIDAY 21ST, 2 PM
WHERE: TRANSLATED – PICAMPUS, VIA INDONESIA 23 ROME 00144

The challenge of languages for companies, communities, and citizens around the globe. What are the key issues, concerns, and expectations surrounding the ongoing reflection on humans and language-related Al?

We will discuss about it together at the Imminent Unconference in Rome. True to the unconference principles, participants will determine the exact agenda and topics to be discussed at the very beginning of the unconference itself on June 21, 2024.

An unconference is an informal, behind-closed-doors event driven by the participants. They suggest topics and vote on the priority in which those topics can be discussed to build the agenda at the start of the day. Discussions take place around the agenda with attendees whose topic is up for debate. They are intended to be as open and free as possible, on the basis of the shared interest of the people involved. By building on collective knowledge and experience, participants can help each other in solving complex problems. All participants are encouraged to join the discussion, regardless of experience levels.

The aim is not necessarily to reach a ‘conclusion’ or an ‘output’ by the end of the session. Instead, it’s a question of exchanging views, expanding the remit of the conversation, taking on board new thoughts and ideas, and ultimately refining one’s vision of the future.

We will discuss freely under the Chatham House Rule: any content publicly distributed after the unconference will report ideas without individual attribution. We will produce a summary about the discussions and findings which come out during the unconference and we will post on the Imminent platform.

The Unconference in Rome takes place after the first edition held in September (6-10) in London & Southampton, the second edition held in October (24-26) in Cape Town, and the third edition in February (15-17) in Punta del Este, where 30 senior people in the field of translation, localization, and artificial intelligence discussed the issues of “Humans and the Future of Translation”, of “Humans and AI: the challenge of languages in Africa”, and of “Humans and AI: the challenge of languages for South America”.

The Ocean Globe Race commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the Whitbread Round the World Race, and it is the most human and adventurous regatta ever: no GPS and no electronic maps – just a sextant and stargazing to guide them on their way, no communication with the world during the journey – just resilience, empathy, and creativity in the face of the unexpected. From September 2023 to April 2024, our sailboat Translated 9 has taken on this extreme challenge, which is only open to boats that competed in one of the first three editions (1973-77-81).
